Alyssa Nabors

Entertainment/News Writer

A software developer by day, dead asleep by night, and fitting in Nerdfightastic activities in wherever she can, Alyssa is 24 years old and currently resides in Chicago. A native of the same Texas metroplex as webcomic artists R.K. Milholland and Joel Watson (neither of whom has she met), she enjoys knitting, learning new languages, collecting comics, and playing music on ukulele, guitar, and piano. Sometimes she opens a web browser intending to do something important, like pay her phone bill or write an email to her grandmother, yet ten minutes later finds herself scrolling through tumblr with no memory of why she even turned on her laptop. She has a younger brother and sister who are probably cooler than she is, but she has a video of the two of them lip synching to Taylor Swift's 22 so everything balances out. Her personal heroes are Neil Gaiman, Tina Fey, Sister Lucy Kurien, Grace Hopper, and her best friend Emily. She's been trying to finish reading Anna Karenina for three years now but dang that book is long. One of her life goals is to finish Anna Karenina before she dies. She has been a writer for the Anglerfish since December 2012. You can follow her on Tumblr, twitter: @identityborrowr, and YouTube.

Joie Ling

Joie is a high school sophomore living in Houston, TX and a writer for The Anglerfish. She is a huge bibliophile and a lover of art. She enjoys writing whenever her schedule allows and her favorite genre is fantasy. Joie is currently working on trying to become a medical doctor. She dreams of traveling the world instead of just reading about it in books.

Cecily Dreyfuss

Advice Columnist

Cecily Dreyfuss has been working with The Anglerfish since its inception. When she's not busy writing advice for Nerdfighteria, she's probably geeking out over her fandoms; playing the guitar, ukulele, or piano. Cecily is a rising senior in high school and is excited/terrified to prepare for college. She is a member of her school's moot court, mock trial, and We The People teams. Cecily is a massive law nerd and is not afraid to admit it. Additionally, she loves the performing arts and has been a member of Sing at her school throughout high school. Cecily's favorite fandoms include Dr. Who (Rose/Ten), Orange is the New Black (Daya/John), and, of course, Harry Potter (Ron/Hermione). Cecily loves writing advice for Nerdfighters and appreciates every time a question comes in and is looking forward to continuing what she's been doing in the year to come.

Sarah Mills

Entertainment/News Writer

Sarah is a proud Maine native who has travelled all around picking up bits of education as she goes.  She received her BA by double-majoring in Theatre and Religion at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, and received her MA in Educational Theatre and Social Studies from NYU's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development.  She is currently working towards her PhD in Drama at the University of Kent in Canterbury, England (yes, as in The Canterbury Tales) and is writing her dissertation on the stand-up comedian as outsider.  She makes daily vlogs (goaliegal31) and other random videos (PartTimeSarah) on YouTube and enjoys watching CTFxC, WheezyWaiter, and the Vlogbrothers (duh!), among many other amazing channels!  She is passionate about the community created through online video.  Sarah is also that rare breed of Nerdfigher, the big sports fan, and is the goalie for her university ice hockey team.  She supports the Boston Bruins and Red Sox, as well as the New England Patriots.  To reclaim her nerdiness, she is a massive fan of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, and anything to do with British comedy (that is why she is studying it in the UK right now!).  Also, if you want to discuss silent movies, Charlie Chaplin, the Marx Brothers,  the Beatles, or DVD audio commentaries, LOOK NO FURTHER!  She writes news and other random articles for The Anglerfish and feels very fortunate to be working with such a talented and inspiring group of made-of-awesome people. You can follow her on Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter

Kaya Raven Mendelsohn

Entertainment Writer

Kaya Raven's name makes more sense when you learn that she's from the hippie-beach town of Santa Cruz, California. She loves free food, seaglass, One Direction, and her dogs, Toasty and Lulu. She sings in an a cappella group and has read the Harry Potter series 6 times. Her writing has been published in The West 4th Street Review. Kaya Raven is a sophomore at NYU studying Applied Psychology and Creative Writing.

Ruth Tirado

Entertainment Writer

Ruth Esther Tirado is a New York-born Dominican who's hobbies range from writing short stories to writing long books. Although you'd expect her to know Spanish, she brought herself up on anime and manga, so she knows a little more Japanese than she's proud of. After taking the Fandom and Pottermore quiz, she found that she is a Ravenclaw and a Divergent Timelady. If you ever give her 5 minutes to talk about herself, she will only ever talk about how she became Prom King (yes, prom KING) at her high school. (And she'll show you the handlebar mustache she used to win the votes). As of July, she has also moved into the small desert town of Night Vale.

Jacob Lambrecht

Entertainment Writer

Jacob is a junior in college studying public health and chemistry who hopes to work in some sort of health care setting, whether it be clinical, public policy or health informatics. When he is not busy with school or writing for The Anglerfish, Jacob can be found hanging out with friends, running, playing lacrosse, reading, writing, gaming, and making late-night Taco Bell runs. He collects architecture and Star Wars themed LEGOs, cool graphic tees, sneakers (mostly Chuck Taylors), and random geeky paraphernalia. Like most Nerdfighters, Jacob belongs to several fandoms with Dr. Who, Sherlock, Firefly, Fringe, and the Swoodilypoopers (John Green & Bald John Green!) among his favorites. He enjoys reading the literary works of John Green, Neil Gaiman, and Orson Scott Card. In addition to the vlogbrothers, Jacob watches a multitude of YouTubers including sxephil, lindseystomp, nicepeter, and devinsupertramp. Someday Jacob will be motivated enough to write on his blog (ender.tv) but until then it will probably be more fandom GIFs and food pictures. (If you have something you want him to blog about, email ideas to jacob@ender.tv.) Ever since his homeworld of Gallifrey was destroyed, Jacob has resided in the Michigan, but would like to travel to Australia and Japan. You can talk to Jacob via twitter @jaclambo.

Melissa Heineman

Melissa is a high school senior majoring in drama and is delving into the infamous college search. She a pescetarian of five years (though she still likes the smell of pot roast), an avid writer and lover of the smells of rainwater, the sea and fresh (or old) paper. She's a vetern gymnast of 8 years and her hobbies include riding roller-coasters, cosplaying, reading, doing yoga and trying new teas. She overuses parentheses but rarely uses exclamation points. Her fandoms include SuperWhoLock, HP, Avatar, and Batman. She is a comic book reader (her favorites are V is For Vendetta, Justice League: Rise and Fall, and Hush), and her favorite writers are Neil Gaiman, Anton Chekov, George Orwell, and Chuck Palaniuk, though her favorite book/play is 'Much Ado About Nothing'. Her idol is Joss Whedon.

Lucy Pegg

Entertainment Writer

Lucy is a writer for The Anglerfish and hails from the United Kingdom. However, she hates tea and feels her British accent is less than impressive, though she will admit she is quite good at queuing. Her redeeming qualities include obsessions with Harry Potter, Sherlock, Buffy and an embarrassing number of other fandoms, as well as the ability to read for hours on end without interruption or to turn any conversation into a feminist rant. She plays clarinet, guitar and ukulele but really needs to practice more. You can follow her on Twitter!
